Majestic's Summer Jam Series Returns for 3rd Edition by Jonathan Schinke

The Majestic Theater in Madison, WI has quietly (or loudly) returned to prominence as the premier live music venue in the capitol city. With a constant slate of high end, sell out shows, the King St. venue has become the go to spot for regionally and nationally touring acts, local parties, and dance thirsty fans, and this Thursday, a highlight of the Summer, the Summer Jam Series, returns for its 3rd straight year.
Each Thursday, the Series will feature local fan favorites, with a pleasant mix of out of town up-and-comers, as well as larger scale groups, all falling under the umbrella of the immense 'jam band' genre. Bluegrass, disco funk, Latin beats, psych rock, reggae acts and more, all take their turn on the big stage, playing to the notoriously frenzied Madison faithful. Oh, and one more thing... It's free. Though there's no doubt the venue probably could charge a significant cover for these events, they don't, ensuring swelled crowds, and energetic sets. It's really a fantastic way for bands from out of town to be guaranteed good turnouts, as well as giving some of the younger groups the experience of playing to a large crowd, on a legitimate stage. Local brewery, Ale Asylum has joined the party as well, signing on as a Series long sponsor. Heady beer, heady bands, and no cover at a historic Madison theater? Sounds like a winning combination to me. I'm guessing Madison agrees.
The 3rd Annual Summer Jam Series kicks into gear this Thursday with local heroes, and purveyors of their signature Creepfunk sound, Steez, with opening act Evergreen Grass Band. EGB hails from Eau Claire and will no doubt start things off an the right, highly energized foot. All shows start at 9pm and, again, are free of charge for those 21 and over. It's only a mere $5 for the kids. Still a steal, anyway you slice it. Here's a look at the current confirmed schedule.
