The Prairie Grass Music Festival, one of the Midwest’s final major summer festivals, will feature some of the best and brightest in the regional and national scene. With over 60 bands spanning 3 days and 3 stages, how could it not?
Held at the Outback Ranch in Houston, MN, this festival combines the large scale, big name allure along with the low prices (less than $100, at publishing time) and community feel that folks in our region have come to love.
Brought to us, in part, by MJG Productions, Prairie Grass is an offshoot of the popular Log Jam Festival, which, after parting ways with their venue following 2008, reconvened in 2009 at the Cabooze in Minneapolis. With the ample space and cooperation found at the Outback Ranch, Prairie Grass was born, much to the delight of festival fanatics everywhere.
Fans of electronica, funk, bluegrass, DJ’s, jam, psych-rock, folk, reggae, and straight-ahead rock n’ roll, will all find a home here. Additionally, Prairie Grass’ late night jams don’t stop at bar time; they continue to rage until 4am!
An increasingly popular festival attraction, the Thursday Pre-Party, will be in full effect on August 20th, with performances by Pert Near Sandstone, DJ Logic and the one and only Particle. The different stylistic elements of the Pre-Party alone give you a good idea of the eclectic nature of this festival. Other acts include Tea Leaf Green, Ana Sia, Eliot Lipp, The Big Wu, Charlie Parr, The Mark Joeseph Project featuring Ray White & Willie Waldman, Shoeless Revolution, Roster McCabe, Deep Sea Summit and many, many more. Wisconsin represents itself very well with two of the most influential jam bands in the state, Steez and Ifdakar, as well as reigning Madison reggae kings, Natty Nation.
